December Bird Walk at Bryn Mawr College

on December 13, 2012

Today our 3rd grade science class took advantage of the fabulous weather and took a hike over to the pond at Bryn Mawr College.  We brought our binoculars and science notebook to record the different birds we saw on the campus.

some of the birds seen included:

cardinal

carolina wren

blue jay

robin

chickadee

mourning dove

woodpecker

canadian geese

dark-eyed junco

great blue heron

phoebe

Some student observations:

we saw more birds since it was quieter off campus
I could actually hear the different bird calls on our hike
lots of birds could be seen in the tree tops
we saw a red-bellied wood pecker scare a blue jay away
there seemed to be more birds in the trees and bushes where they were protected from people

here are some slides from our trip
