Metamorphic Rocks !

on February 1, 2013

Today in class second grade students investigated different metamorphic rocks in class.  We used different colored clay as a model to help us understand how metamorphic rocks were made.  Students were given two different colors of clay and they applied both heat and pressure to the clay to show how metamorphic rocks are formed.  Some students were so inspired that they made volcanoes out of clay that related to the igneous rocks we looked at earlier in the week.   The heat and pressure applied to the rocks explains the layering of different metamorphic rocks like schist and slate.
