Ultimate Reaction

on February 13, 2013

More is not always better.

5th grade students wondered what combination of baking soda to vinegar made the biggest reaction.   Students tested different amounts of baking soda using the same 30 mL of vinegar and stirred vigorously in a cup.  Students found that the 1:3 ratio worked the best.  ( 1 baking soda : 3 vinegar )  How much vinegar would you need to add to 30 mL of baking soda to get the best reaction?  Ask a fifth grader!
