Mexican Students Enjoy 2nd Grade Monarch Butterflies

on February 21, 2013

2nd grade students have been participating in the Journey North Symbolic Migration Project.  Shipley students sent three monarch butterflies to students in Mexico where the monarch butterflies migrate in the winter months.

Mexican students received a donated monarch butterfly book sent by the 2nd grade students this fall.  2 schools recieved our butterfiles in Mexico.

Both the 5th grade students who go to Emiliano Zapata School  and 6th grade students who go to Niños Héroes School recieved Shipley butterflies sent by our students.  Both schools live near El Rosario Monarch Sanctuary where the butterflies spend the winter months.

The mexican schools shared pictures of their students holding our butterflies.  Can you find them in the pictures?  We can’t wait to have the butteflies migrate north again this spring.
