5th Grade Examines Parts of a Flower

on April 25, 2013

5th grade students took the Journey North tulips and other perrenial flowers from their flower beds and looked at each part closely in the lab using the microscope and magnifying lenses.  The digital microscope gave the students a chance to see magnified images of the pollen grains, anther, the eggs, and ovary inside the flower.  We were able to take some great pictures of the flowers in the lab which will help the student prepare for their parts of the flower quiz next week.  Our lesson was made possible by the hard work of our students planting the perrenial bulbs in early November.   Looking at the very flowers we planted in our garden makes the experience more real and relevant to the students.
