PLACE of PEACE postcards

on September 11, 2013

I wanted to relate the theme of peace in our lower school to something each one of our lower students could understand in a clear and concrete way.  I shared a slide show of my “places of peace” my family and I share on our trip to Maine in the Summer.  I had each student create a postcard of their place of peace from the summer.  I was impressed with the diversity of the responses each student from first grade to fifth grade shared.  I placed all the postcards on a large bulletin board in front of my classroom.

some interesting thoughts from students:

“a place may be peaceful only at certain times a day – like the evening”

“peace to me may mean something totally different for someone else.”

roller coasters and amusement parks bring some people peace, but may make other people feel uneasy

“peace is found in my quiet bedroom”
