Cold and Snow Brings Birds to the Feeders

on January 31, 2014

Our third graders took a walk to the Bryn Mawr Campus this week to observe birds in the field.  Our most exciting find was a large red-tailed hawk sitting in a tree 5o feet above us on the trail.  In the classroom, we have been watching a large diversity of birds coming to our feeders in the cold weather and snow covered campus.  We have a platform feeder, a tube feeder, and house feeder, and suet.   We have been filling the feeder with sunflower seeds.  Snow will be melting this weekend and it will be interesting to see whether the same number and variety of birds come to the feeder in the coming weeks.
