Designing a Marble Roller Coaster

Today the second grade took the marble challenge.  Students first did their best to make a single loop and get a marble into a bucket.  Many of the engineers were able to design a double loop roller coaster with our insulation tubes.  Students found that choosing the height of the drop was important, as it determined how much energy was in the system.  We discussed the importance of gravity and friction in designing the roller coaster models.  This project was exciting and a great way to learn about  the behavior of different forces in science.
