Perfect Day for an Insect Hunt

on May 13, 2014

5th graders walked to Ashbridge Park today for science to identify different insects in the tall grasses.  Students had large field nets, field guides, and containers to catch the insects.  Students are making an insect field guide and recording the different orders (groups) that they find in the field.   Today we saw the following orders of insects:

Lepidoptera – Butterfly

Hemiptera – True Bug

Hymenoptera – bees, ants

Orthoptera – crickets

Homoptera – leaf hoppers

Diptera – true flies

Colooptera – beetles
