Making S’MORES

on June 2, 2014

The third grade tested their solar ovens today on a beautiful June day.  Students placed the s’mores into their ovens early in the morning.  during class, students recorded the temperature every 5 minutes for 30 minutes.  Ovens got to get as hot as 120 degrees Fahrenheit or 60 degrees Celcius.  We let the boxes cool inside the shade and stopped whenever the temperature of the oven reached within 3 degrees of the shaded temperature.  We found out which ovens were able to hold the heat in the best with the insulators placed inside the box.  The best part came in the end when we ate or s’mores.  Feels like summer! As one of my students said today in class, “Science is delicious!”
