Ashbridge Park Stream Study

on October 6, 2014

This past Friday the fifth grade worked with the Lower Merion Conservancy to test the health of the Mill Creek that flows through Ashbridge Park.  The stream is close to the school and about a 10 minute walk from school.  Last month, we tested an area of the stream closer to the Schuylkill River in Gladwyne.   The Mill Creek is part of the Schuylkill River Watershed and Delaware River Watershed.   Students took  chemical tests and studied the different macroinvertebrates in the stream.  Based on the data collected, the stream seemed to be pretty healthy.

Macroinvertebrates: mayfly, snail, cranefly larvae, leach, waterstrider

pH 7.0

 chloride 140 g/mL

nitrogen 2 g/mL

dissolved oxygen 8 – 12 ppm
