Fourth Grade students made polyurethane foam in the lab today.  We added a 1/2 ounce of poly A liquid to 1/2 ounce of poly B liquid and stirred the two chemicals together 100 times in a plastic cup.  We had a classic chemical reaction that included intense heat, foaming, color change. phase change, and bubbles.  We took the polyurethane foam that looked like a “foam gnome” and made different characters with crafts supplies.   Students were able to experience a memorable chemical reaction that everyone could take home and help decorate their homes  for the holidays.
