Designing the Slowest Parachute

on April 1, 2015

Fourth Graders spent the last month designing the slowest parachute.  Through experimentation and data collection, each group was able to pick their own string, material, canopy size, and string length for their own parachute.  We measured the distance traveled and the time it took to fall to the floor to find the velocity of the parachute.  All groups improved their design to make the parachute “mission ready.”  Some groups were able to develop a parachute that traveled less than 2 feet/ second – an impressive record !
